Things you should do right while searching for a Job.
Looking for a new or better job? If so, take a look at how you can do the little things right that can help you in your job search. After doing all the right things and uploading your resume on Job Portals, there are chances that you may lose out on some urgent openings.

Let’s look at some common errors that people make and some new ways of finding a job.
These days I see a lot of Groups and Pages on Facebook which claim to offer Job opportunities by inviting everyone to come and post Jobs they might have to offer.

I don’t say that joining the group is not a good ploy. However we need to first understand how technology works and how we use it for our own advantage.

On a Given Page or a Group if you have more than 100 people posting Jobs then the chances are that you might miss a few.

Let me explain this in detail through an example :

At the end of each month when we gather all newspapers to be sold to the paper mart, we get a huge pile of paper. Now suppose I ask you to read one article on one of the newspapers the news paper from the pile of newspaper, 9 out of 10 people would probably pick any one of the first 5 papers of the pile. The rest is not to be read.

On Facebook Groups or Pages where you have many people posting jobs, this is what happens. Facebook will generally show you the latest 20 postings on your screen. For the next set of postings you need to scroll down to older posts.

Since you have joined the group or the company page to get regular updates they will appear on your timeline. So now if you have say 500 friends and they update their status and add some advertisements which you get on your timeline you will end up getting more than 500 posts to read. This is why I said few job openings will end up in the pile of news feed and you may miss them.
Which means you would have to always be online to read them. If you want any update from a Company page or Group you either Like the page or Join the group. The posts on these pages hardly reaches 2% – 16 % of the fans on the page, so all the more chances that you might miss the updates.

The only way out is on your Facebook page when you have clicked Home, Look at the left hand side you will see the Favorite section; add your Group to it. See the image below.

Favorites

If it’s a Page you have liked and you need to check its update do the following. See the Images below select the pages liked first.

interest pages
Or

like page

All this is applicable if you have liked 30 to 40 pages till now. So select a few of which you don’t want to miss and put them in the interest list.

Once you have done this make it a point to check the interest list everyday for current Job openings and this is how won’t miss the Jobs postings/Updates.

Now that we have covered Facebook, lets look at something more important than FB.

When you upload your resume you always give an Email ID. Always check your Email ID before you login to any social sites, if you are serious about your Job search.

Majority of Job seekers forget to check their Emails regularly. The word most important here is REGULARLY.

All Job alerts and News- letters that you have subscribed to will be delivered to your Mail box. Go ahead and open those Emails and see what Jobs are matching your skills set.

Lets see how an RSS feed can help you get most recent Job updates. If you are using Firefox it has RSS feed in the bookmark section. Just copy paste the link below and paste it in the browser and click on the subscribe button.

Whenever a new Job is posted, you would get the feeds.

Just as you get into the habit of checking mails regularly, you would get used to checking RSS Feeds daily.

You can select RSS feed from any site you wish. My guess is a few of us consider job hunting fun. I’m not suggesting that these feeds replace professionals, but the feeds offer some distinct advantages.

The feeds pick up new job listings that meet your criteria. If you don’t have an RSS reader, there are plenty of free ones.

Keep the following in Mind
1)      Check your Emails regularly
2)      Check your RSS feed daily
3)      Put the most important groups in Favorites section in Facebook
4)      Add important Pages you liked on Facebook in the Interest section.
I hope this article must have helped you in organizing your search a little better. Do write to us with your comments and feedbacks. Until then Happy Job Hunting
