Is your CV Job ready?

Written By Unknown on 12 Jul 2013 | 07:13

All Employers need employees at some point in time, then what should they do? They are not going to come searching at your doorstep nor stand at a bus stop and shout that they need employees. We all are aware that this doesn’t happen. Well then we all also have to agree to the fact that they only advertise in News papers and search CV’s in Job portals. In these scenarios the only important word is the CV.

Let me put it this way; there is a vacancy in your dream company and you want this job somehow. Your CV is your first tool that will get you an interview call in your dream company.  Now there are 5 vacancies and 1000 candidates have applied for the same post. You can imagine how difficult it is for the HR executive to shortlist only 5 candidates out of the many shortlisted. The key differentiator is what key details are on the CV that stands out from the rest.
If you have been given the same task to shortlist 10 CV’s or 20 Cv’s out of a 1000, so that you can select the best 5 and close the vacant positions in your company. What would you do?
There are two things which are important, one is the HR Executive and the other is your CV. You may not have control over the executive but you certainly do have full control over what your CV looks like and whats on your CV. Your CV should sell you and get you an interview call.

Over the last 15 years I have spoken to many students in regards to the same topic, and the strange thing I came across is that a CV is prepared in 3 simple steps: COPY a format from a website, PASTE it on your CV and EDIT key details. Some students believe that a Degree by itself will get them  a job or the institute where they studied will give them Job offers. Some students I have seen are very pro-active, they consult friends and professionals and only then prepare their CV.

The question we need to ask ourselves is; If I only put my qualification on my CV will I get an interview call?. The answer to this is obviously ‘NO’. We first need to accept the fact that we need to learn how to prepare our CV, something that is extremely important.
Remember not to send the same resume everywhere.
Students nowadays pay professionals //experts huge sums of money  to get their resume prepared. I don’t say that’s bad. You should learn to edit and prepare your Resume based on the Job Description provided by the Employer.
