This is your step by step guide to choose the best and the right Career…Yes…I know you might be thinking that it is so tough to decide what ones career interest is and how could one choose those interests to build a career path on it…. I may have an answer to that….

There are hundreds and thousands of career options to choose from…but the glitch is; how do you go about making that choice when you are not clear of what you really want to do…. Wait don’t panic….

All you need is a little patience, some time and proactiveness to make that decision, and trust me it will surely be worth all the efforts you have put in. Just follow these simple steps and you are on your way in making that perfect career choice…

Know yourself:

The first step before you make your choice is to KNOW YOURSELF. You may say I know myself better than anyone and trust me; I’m not challenging you to it. I’m just saying it is good to know what you are good at and what you are weak in. Simply put it as your interest, interpersonal skills, attributes with some strong personality traits which could give you some related suitable career options, which is why you should know your strengths.

You could use some of the tests available online, also known as career tests or self assessment tools to gather information about yourself and also to get a list of what careers or occupations are appropriate for you. Some of you could also use career counselors or professionals who could guide you to your right career, but there are cheaper ways to get this by opting for free career tests available on the Web nowadays.

List your Options:

I suggest you use all the available free tests available online and generate multiple lists of occupations from these various sites. They might be a little lengthy but you need to then shortlist about 5 to 10 occupations from each list. Highlight options that are common through every list. The next step is to jot down those options on a separate sheet of paper and further fine-tune the list by judging what you would like to take up as a career and how much you have a liking towards.

Explore the Options on your list:

For every occupation on that list look up on the net the required job description, educational background, growth prospects and the pay package on offer(considering you are a fresher there would be lesser options).

How to Explore Career Options:

Now you should have only a few occupations left on your list…

Look at that list and start an in-depth analysis of the options left on that list.  The best source of this information would be the people who have firsthand information and knowledge of the occupations of your interests. Try to check on the Net if you can have information sharing interviews with them and you can also read Articles posted by stalwarts of various occupations/industries to get an in-depth understanding of what you want to get into.

Fine Tune your list further:

Further shortlist possible occupations basis your findings. Neglect or cut off those occupations from your list which would require you to further enhance your career with an added degree/ course or which would cause you any heavy monetary investments.

Goal Setting:

By the time you reach this step you may have decided the one occupation you would like to make your career in.  Now it is time to draw or formulate a plan around it, so that you can find a job of your choice. But first you need to have a clear Career Goal in mind. There are many websites that could help you with tools on Goal Setting and how to achieve them.

Action Plan:

The idea of formulating an Action plan is to help you attain or achieve both your short term and long term goals which you have set for yourself. These goals need to change when you achieve or reach those goals. This action plan will be a guide to pursue and follow through to achieve both your short term and long term goals.

Work on yourself:

It’s sometimes best to reinvent oneself, ones approach and the way you are for your own betterment. Work on yourself and the skills you lack; to be irresistible for employers to hire you. You could join some classes/courses for verbal communication enhancement and soft skills. These will ensure you get into the Right Career of your Choice….

You can write back to me with questions and I will be more than happy to answer them… Until then… Happy Reading J
