 Psychometric test? Sounds scary right???

A Psychometric test though may sound scary but is something that has become a necessity for each and every one to decide and firm up on what career path to choose. Let me break it down for you…

In simple words, a psychometric test is used to identify a candidate’s personality, his/her abilities and aptitude. These tests have evolved over time and are defined by educational level, age and /or type of job.
Though most tests were done on paper as questionnaires sometime back, companies nowadays are opting for online tests nowadays. The latter being more tech friendly is the most widely used by Companies nowadays. These tests are often used only for preliminary screening.

Types of psychometric test

A Personality test aims to identify a personal type and there are no ‘right or wrong’ answers. They often take the form of paired items or pictures that you are asked to choose a preference. For example, would you rather read a book or go to a party?
These tests ask questions relating to personality and help employers understand how candidates might fit into a team as well as give insight as to their work styles and preferences.
It is best to answer these tests as honestly as possible.

Aptitude or ability tests are those that are designed to assess your reasoning or cognitive ability.
Aptitude tests are usually timed and include:
·         spatial reasoning;
·         verbal tests;
·         Subject /job-specific tests.
·         numerical tests;

To prepare for an aptitude test, practise as many tests as possible.

How do I pass a psychometric test?

This is something you should remember…… There are no wrong or no right answers in a personality test and an aptitude test is just used as a base for your recruitment.
When taking these tests, make sure you:
  • Don’t panic…….
  • read the instructions carefully;
  • work through briskly and accurately;
  • don’t try to guess the right answer;
  • answer honestly;
  • practise so that you’re not distracted by the style or formatting of questions;
  • Pay attention to what you’re being asked but don’t dwell for long – move to the next question if you’re unsure.
